Discovering New York

Today, all of Summer Discovery took the Mega bus to Manhattan, New York. This was meant as a vacation day, so everyone was allowed to explore parts of NYC, the monitored sections, with their friends. The bus first stopped at Columbia University, which gave a chance for people to see the campus if they had never seen it before. I did not spend much time on the campus because I had already seen it last Saturday. We were given plenty of time to explore this area, but Hannah and I did not know what to do. We ended up making two new friends from Summer Discovery who had no idea what to do as well, and we ended up just walking around the Columbia area getting to know each other.

Then we were filed back on to the Mega bus and taken to Times Square. We were given many hours of free time here to explore as well. Hannah and I, along with a group of other friends, went to the top of the Rockefeller building and looked at the view. Afterwards, we walked a lot exploring the city and eventually ran into an H&M store. The store was ginormous and extravagant, with three stories, a DJ, and a great sale. We shopped for hours, but I did not buy much. Afterwards we went back to the Mega bus and were back on campus two hours later. What I have noticed about the places I have visited in New York is that those areas seem to be made for tourists. All you can really do is look and buy things. I would like to visit other parts of New York, or New York City, so that I can have a different image of it besides it being a tourist place.

I did not do very much in New York, but it gave me an opportunity to observe a lot. Tomorrow is another free day, except with no trip, so I hopefully will be able to slow down and relax.
